Mini Blinds in a bathroom

Plantation Blinds vs. Mini Blinds

When you think about blinds, you might picture mini blinds. This well-liked, budget-friendly window treatment often has one-inch aluminum slats.

Mini blinds work well in busy areas with heavy foot traffic, since they’re easy to maintain. And cordless blinds styles from Hunter Douglas are even smoother to lower.

Plantation shutters

Plantation Blinds vs. Plantation Shutters

Plantation blinds look like plantation shutters but have a number of distinct features.

1. Slat Thickness

Plantation blinds have larger slats than regular blinds, sometimes as wide as 2.5 inches. But their slats are narrower than plantation shutter louvers, which are as large as 4.5 inches.

2. Installation Location

Plantation blinds are installed at the top of windows, while plantation shutters are installed inside the window opening.

3. Operating System

Many plantation blinds lower with a cord, but some feature a cordless lift system, like our custom blinds from Hunter Douglas.

Design Your Blinds

Our blinds come in a selection of slat sizes, finishes and materials. Most popular styles include faux wood and wood blinds.

Not sure which type you should select? Real wood blinds are ideal for rooms with not a lot of humidity, such as bedrooms or living spaces. Polymer blinds are moisture resistant, making them an excellent choice for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms.

Whichever style you want, you’ll get window treatments with superior light control.
